through our first week of kindergarten!
Kids are doing a great job adjusting to “school” mode instead of “summer mode”.
We are working on learning classroom rules. So far we have practiced:
- Focus you attention – eyes on, ears on, mouth closed
- Follow directions quickly – teacher gives direction, child gets started right away.
We will learn the rest of the rules next week. There are three more to learn.
We spent a lot of time reading books. This week we read:
We read The Kissing Hand twice and did many activities that helped us with our coloring, cutting, and gluing (fine motor skills).
We are working on using a pinch grip to hold our crayons (one finger/one thumb or two fingers/one thumb).
We are working on holding our scissors with thumb on top/fingers on bottom. Scissors always point away from us and we turn our paper, not the scissors.
We are working on gluing the edges down flat by putting glue at the edges without falling off/out of the shape that needs to be glued.
We acted out/retold Five Little Monkeys by wiggling and moving. Ask your child to show you the story.
We read the Mine-o-saur and discussed how we should behave with friends. We talked about sharing, be kind, and being polite. When we do these things, other people will want to play/work with us and be our friend.
We spent a lot of time playing with tools and toys in our room and getting to know each other.

**Return all paperwork to school, if you haven’t done so already
**Send 2, yes two, snack each day. Please put them in a small pocket of your child’s backpack. NOT in his/her lunch box.
**Label your child’s backpack, coats, and yes….winter gear when you get it! I labeled lunch boxes as the kids were having a difficult time finding their lunch box in our classroom bucket in the lunchroom. Sorry there was not prior notification. It was done to help your child find his/her lunch box quickly so they would have more time to eat.
