READERS…READERS…AND MORE READERS!

This year your child will be bringing home LOTS of emergent readers.  They look like this….

They are paper booklets that we work on in our classroom as a big group and in small groups with our wonderful parapros (teachers who support learning).

We call these books “JUST RIGHT” books, as they are just right for your child to read to you!

I am hoping that when your child brings home a “Just Right” emergent reader that parents, brothers, sisters, grandmas, grandpas, or whoever may live in your house will allow your child to read it to you.

The more your child practices reading these books the more confident reader he/she will be.  He/she will also learn to read with fluency by rereading the book to many different people, and start to remember the story (comprehension).  You can create a library of these books right in your child’s bedroom so they have easy access to them.  I have done this with my own children.  They LOVE IT!

These books are also packed full of “POPCORN WORDS”.  These are words that “pop up” often in books and they are sight words that we practice reading at school.

If you not saved the first few, don’t worry, there are many more to come.  You can start saving them when you receive the next book.

I hope you and your child enjoy these simple stories and “Happy Reading!”
